The Gujarat Congress party has commenced the candidate selection process for the upcoming bye-election in the Umreth Assembly constituency. Party-appointed observers are scheduled to listen to potential candidates, following instructions from state president Amit Chavda. Interested candidates are to present themselves for consideration in Umreth on March 24 at 11:00 A.M.
The party has designated observers including Natvarsinh Mahida, former MLA Chandanji Thakor, Vajirkhan Pathan, and Jagat Shukla for this task. The aim of this process is to evaluate candidates before making the final selection. The bye-election in Umreth was necessitated by the passing of BJP MLA Govind Parmar earlier this month, leaving the seat vacant.
Scheduled for April 23, the poll will see over 2.4 lakh registered voters across more than 300 polling stations using electronic voting machines with VVPAT units. Administrative arrangements are already in progress, with the appointment of nodal officers and training of polling staff in accordance with Election Commission guidelines.
Preparations are also in place for public amenities in all Assembly constituencies with scheduled bye-elections. Umreth Assembly constituency, part of the Anand Lok Sabha constituency, is an unreserved seat covering areas of Umreth taluka and parts of Anand taluka, including various villages and urban sections. In the 2022 state Assembly election, Parmar secured victory with a lead of over 26,000 votes.
