The Gujarat Forest Department has introduced a digital helpline to aid citizens in finding nearby forest nurseries and acquiring saplings easily. By dialing 8320002000 or sending a message, individuals can access information on nursery locations and forest-related services. This initiative aligns with the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, aiming to enhance tree plantation efforts across the state.
The new service offers details on Social Forestry nurseries, including contact information and Google Maps location, through a simple phone call or message. Users can also connect with forest officials by sending “Hi” via SMS or WhatsApp to the provided number. This citizen-centric approach is part of the Forest Department’s efforts to promote public participation in greening Gujarat.
Forest and Environment Minister Arjun Modhwadia highlighted the importance of this initiative in facilitating citizen engagement in tree plantation drives. The Forest Department’s digital helpline system has garnered positive feedback, handling around 30 to 40 calls daily. Minister of State for Forest and Environment, Pravin Mali, emphasized the platform’s role in enhancing access to forest department services for citizens across the state.
The Forest Department’s digital service allows citizens to purchase saplings from any of the 453 nurseries in Gujarat at affordable prices. Saplings in specific sizes are distributed free of cost, while high-quality plants are available for purchase. Furthermore, citizens can seek wildlife rescue assistance and lodge complaints related to forests through the department’s toll-free helpline.
