The Gujarat government has officially designated six newly inducted Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to remain in their current positions after being promoted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) from the Gujarat Police Service to the IPS under the Select List 2025. The appointments, as per a notification from the Home Department, were made following the MHA’s promotion notification on July 2, which upgraded the officers to the IPS and assigned them to the Gujarat cadre. The state government has allowed these officers to continue in their present roles without immediate transfers.
The officers mentioned in the notification include Rajdipsinh Nakum, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Operation Group, Surat City; Bharatkumar Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-2, Ahmedabad City; Praful Vania, Superintendent of Police (Intelligence), Gandhinagar; Rajeshkumar Parmar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-6, Surat City; Kalpeshkumar Chawda, Commandant, State Reserve Police Force Group-8, Gondal; and Rakesh Desai, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-2, Rajkot City. The state government’s action follows the Gazette notification by the Union Home Ministry, appointing these officers to the Indian Police Service on probation under the relevant regulations.
As per the MHA order, the six officers will undergo a one-year probation period and receive induction training as per the rules. These appointments are part of the annual promotion process where eligible State Police Service officers are elevated to the IPS to fill vacancies in the promotion quota. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs identified six vacancies for Gujarat’s Select List 2025 due to retirements, aligning with the state’s promotion quota of 63 posts.
