The Gujarat government has initiated applications for farmers to participate in the newly launched ‘Mission for Cotton Productivity’ by the Centre. Eligible cultivators stand to benefit from input assistance of up to Rs 14,000 per hectare for embracing modern cotton cultivation practices. The mission, also known as the Cotton Revolution Mission, spans from 2026-27 to 2030-31 and aims to boost cotton production, decrease imports, and enhance farmers’ incomes through improved cultivation methods.
State Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani disclosed that farmers engaged in cotton cultivation will receive support to adopt modern farming practices over the next five years. Gujarat, a prominent cotton-producing state, has been allocated a budget of Rs 134.80 crore under the Mission for Cotton Productivity for the current year. The state targets covering over one lakh hectares across 21 cotton-growing districts under this initiative, offering assistance through two distinct cultivation models.
Farmers employing the “Closer Spacing Technology” method with a spacing of 90 cm by 30 cm will be eligible for Rs 14,000 per hectare. Those opting for the “Integrated Crop Management” method at 90 cm by 60 cm spacing will receive Rs 7,500 per hectare, with a maximum limit of two hectares per farmer annually. To qualify for financial aid, farmers must have used approved cotton varieties or seeds and completed the mandatory Farmer Registry.
The state government plans to conduct training programs throughout the year to aid farmers in adopting new cultivation techniques and enhancing productivity. Applications for the scheme are now open on the i-Khedut portal, welcoming farmers who have already planted cotton or intend to do so using the prescribed methods. Minister Vaghani encourages eligible farmers to apply through the portal to access the support provided under the mission.
