The Gujarat government introduced the ‘Viksit Gujarat – Data Centre Policy 2026-29’ to attract investments in hyperscale data centers and digital services. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled the policy booklet in Gandhinagar. The policy aims to support India’s digital economy growth by creating essential infrastructure.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia, and other officials attended the launch event. The Science and Technology Department Secretary highlighted the significance of data in powering various digital aspects. She emphasized the need for robust data infrastructure to drive innovation and services.
The policy recognizes data centers as critical infrastructure and offers fiscal incentives like subsidies and support for investments. Gujarat plans to enhance its international connectivity with new cable landing stations. The state aims to leverage its existing infrastructure and renewable energy capacity to attract data center investments.
Gujarat’s policy envisions a significant role in the global data center expansion by the end of the decade. The state targets becoming a USD 3.5 trillion economy by 2047. Officials aim to create a competitive environment for data center investments through both fiscal and non-fiscal incentives. Gujarat seeks to position itself as a key player in the AI ecosystem.
Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia emphasized the importance of data in driving economic growth. He highlighted India’s potential in sectors like vaccine manufacturing and semiconductor production. Modhwadia invited investors to participate in developing data center capacity in Gujarat. The state government aims to support the growth of the digital infrastructure ecosystem.
