The Gujarat government has undertaken a significant reshuffle in the state police administration by transferring 37 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to new roles. This move, effective immediately, involves adjustments in posts to align with the officers’ ranks and is aimed at public interest. The restructuring coincides with the upcoming municipal corporation and district panchayat elections in major cities of the state.

One notable change includes the transfer of 2010-batch IPS officer Nirlipt Rai from the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) in Gandhinagar to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Rajkot Range. Additionally, Ashok Kumar, a 2003-batch IPS officer who served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Rajkot Range, has been reassigned as IGP, CID (Intelligence), in Gandhinagar.

Dr. Shamsher Singh, a senior IPS officer from the 1991 batch, has been appointed as Director of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards in Ahmedabad. Singh, who recently returned from deputation with the Border Security Force, had been awaiting a posting since January. Another significant appointment involves 2005-batch IPS officer Raghvendra Vatsa, who has been moved from Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Surat city to the position of IGP of the Ahmedabad Range.

The government has introduced a new Banaskantha Range, increasing the total number of police ranges in the state to 10. IPS officer Parikshita Rathod of the 2007 batch, previously Inspector General of CID Crime, has been appointed IG of the newly-established range. Several other officers have also been assigned new roles, including Vidhi Chaudhary (2009 batch) as Deputy Inspector General of the Panchmahal–Godhra Range and Dr. Leena Patil (2010 batch) to the Gujarat Police Academy.

In Ahmedabad, a new Zone-8 has been formed within the city police structure, with IPS officer Mayur Patil appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police for this zone. Notable promotions include Makrand Chauhan to the rank of IGP and his posting as DIG (Law and Order) in Gandhinagar, while Wabang Jamir has been put on hold for a new assignment. The reshuffle also involves the appointment of several officers to key positions in Surat, Vadodara, and the state Intelligence and anti-corruption units as part of the administrative revamp.
