Gujarat High Court’s Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal emphasized the importance of using mediation to resolve legal disputes efficiently. She laid the foundation stone for a new judicial complex in Kalol, Gandhinagar district, promoting faster case resolutions through alternative dispute mechanisms. The construction of an advanced Taluka Court and Advocates’ Complex, costing over Rs 49 crore, was inaugurated during the event.
The ceremony, attended by Minister of State for Law and Justice Kaushik Vekariya, highlighted the need for specialized mediation training for advocates. Justice Agarwal urged the legal community to collaborate with the District Legal Services Authority to facilitate quicker dispute resolutions outside the courtroom. She envisioned every taluka having a functional mediation center to expedite legal processes and promote amicable settlements.
The new judicial complex in Kalol will house a dedicated mediation center, filing facilities, public amenities, a conference hall, a library, and advocates’ chambers. Justice Agarwal stressed that while modern infrastructure is essential, the true essence of justice lies in an efficient judicial system rather than just grand buildings. She announced a policy mandating separate advocates’ buildings in all new court constructions in Gujarat to provide lawyers with suitable working spaces.
