Gujarat has identified and started more than 40 artificial intelligence (AI) use cases in various government departments, including agriculture, healthcare, urban development, energy, and governance. The state is expanding the use of AI-driven systems to enhance public administration and citizen services. The state government disclosed these details on ‘National Technology Day’.
The state has launched the “Gujarat Future Technology Initiatives” (GFTI) program to ensure the integration of AI across departments. Institutional mechanisms like an AI Taskforce, AI Implementation Cell, and AI Action Plan have been established to support the strategic implementation of technology-based governance. Gujarat has also taken steps to boost AI research and development through the Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO).
Officials described Gujarat’s approach as “technology-based good governance” with government departments being equipped with AI. The state has become the country’s AI ecosystem through the IAIRO and GPU ecosystem. National Technology Day, observed on May 11, commemorates India’s successful nuclear tests under ‘Operation Shakti’ in 1998 and the maiden flight of the indigenously developed Hans-3 aircraft.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is building a strong global identity in technology and artificial intelligence. Gujarat, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia, has taken significant steps towards technology-driven governance and AI-enabled services. The AI Centre of Excellence, established in collaboration with NASSCOM and Microsoft, has played a crucial role in the state’s technology development efforts.
