The Gujarat Legislative Assembly in Gandhinagar has established its financial and non-financial committees for the upcoming 2026-27 financial year. Speaker Shankar Chaudhary announced the formation of key financial panels, including the Estimates Committee led by C.J. Chavda, the Public Accounts Committee chaired by Pankaj Desai, the Committee on Public Undertakings headed by Ramanlal Vora, and the Panchayati Raj Committee under Uday Kangad. These committees are crucial for overseeing the state’s financial management and administrative duties.
The committees, as per Rule 156(1) of the Rules of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, are tasked with scrutinizing public expenditure, evaluating the performance of public undertakings, and monitoring the activities of Panchayati Raj institutions. The Assembly Secretariat emphasized the significant role these committees play in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Legislative Assembly’s financial and administrative responsibilities.
In addition to the financial committees, the Assembly also appointed chairpersons for various non-financial panels. Speaker Shankar Chaudhary will lead the Rules Committee and the Library Committee, while Deputy Speaker Purnesh Modi will chair the Petitions Committee. Notable appointments include Hardik Patel as chairman of the Subordinate Legislation Committee, Malati Maheshwari heading the Committee for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes, and Amit Shah named chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances.
Moreover, the Assembly designated Mohan Dhodiya as chairman of the Committee for the Welfare of Scheduled Tribes, Vinod Mordiya as head of the Committee on Absence of Members from the Sittings of the House, and Sangeeta Patil as chairperson of the Members’ Residence Committee. The appointments also include Meghji Chavda, Arjunsinh Chauhan, Keshu Patel, Mukesh Patel, and Alpesh Thakor as chairpersons of various committees focusing on different aspects of legislative responsibilities.
