Gujarat’s Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia stressed the need for universities to transform into hubs of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship to adapt to global changes. He made these remarks at the state’s inaugural Vice Chancellors’ meeting aimed at enhancing the science, technology, and innovation landscape in Gujarat.
During the meeting, attended by state Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja and various university vice chancellors, Modhwadia highlighted the importance of universities keeping up with the evolving landscape of research and development worldwide. He emphasized that universities should not merely focus on education but also on fostering discovery, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Modhwadia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting research endeavors by ensuring adequate funding. He mentioned the substantial allocation of Rs 62,000 crore in the latest state budget towards the education sector, the highest allocation to date, to revamp the education system. The minister also acknowledged the pivotal role of universities in training the youth to meet the emerging technological demands.
Education Minister Vaja echoed the transformative role of universities in shaping future scientists, technologists, and innovators. He highlighted successful education initiatives that have increased student enrollment and admissions in colleges. The meeting witnessed the signing of MoUs between various institutions to foster collaboration in areas such as Artificial Intelligence.
