Gujarat Police have apprehended 568 Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly residing illegally in the state as part of ‘Operation Delta Hunt’. The arrests were made during coordinated operations supervised by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi. Among those detained, there were 172 men, 282 women, and 114 children.
The operation, which began earlier this week, has seen a significant increase in the number of detainees. Starting with 362 individuals on June 3, the figure rose to 501 on June 4 and reached 568 by Friday morning. Authorities are conducting search and verification drives across multiple districts as part of the ongoing crackdown.
Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi emphasized that the state will not compromise on its security and peace. He stated that similar actions against illegal infiltration and unauthorized settlements will continue in the future. ‘Operation Delta Hunt’ is an Intelligence-led exercise involving police units throughout Gujarat.
Police have utilized various methods, including telecom analysis and field verification, to identify suspected undocumented foreign nationals. Checkpoints were set up at key locations to prevent suspects from leaving targeted areas during the initial phase of the operation. Investigations are ongoing into networks that may have facilitated illegal residence in the state.
Specialized teams are actively verifying the identities of other suspected individuals and probing locations linked to the case in multiple districts. Legal proceedings have commenced against the detainees, with further actions planned in accordance with the law. ‘Operation Delta Hunt’ stands as one of Gujarat’s largest recent drives against suspected illegal immigration, with continued enforcement measures expected in the days ahead.
