Gujarat Police have expanded their investigation from detaining suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants to probing local agents, employers, and facilitators who allegedly aided them in obtaining housing, jobs, and identity papers.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi mentioned that ‘Operation Delta Hunt’ aims not only to identify illegal foreign nationals in the state but also to uncover those who supported them. Authorities are scrutinizing individuals providing shelter, jobs, and forged documents to these migrants.
The police are utilizing technology and human intelligence to track down local agents and facilitators involved in arranging SIM cards, accommodation, employment, and fake documents like Aadhaar cards and voter identity cards. Sanghavi emphasized that severe action will be taken against those found aiding infiltrators.
The investigation also targets industries that employed undocumented foreign nationals without proper verification. Many detainees are suspected of entering India through West Bengal and obtaining local documents to secure official identification. The operation involves telecom analysis and field verification to identify suspicious profiles and potential collaborators.
Director General of Police K. L. N. Rao highlighted the reliance on telecom analysis and field verification in the operation. More than 6,200 suspicious profiles were identified through a database of Indian mobile numbers communicating with Bangladeshi numbers. Questioning of over 782 suspects is ongoing, with possible further arrests as the verification process continues.
Sanghavi refrained from commenting on alleged political ties, stating that the investigation is ongoing and will persist across Gujarat in the following weeks to identify illegal residents and their facilitators.
