Gujarat is actively seeking investments in semiconductor manufacturing, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel engaging in discussions with industry leaders during the SemiConnect Conference-2026 in Gandhinagar. The conference, themed “Gujarat – India’s Gateway to Silicon,” aimed to foster collaboration between global chipmakers and Indian industries. Talks during the event focused on proposals for establishing semiconductor research and development centers, memory module facilities, power chip manufacturing units, and specialty chemical plants in the state.
Chief Minister Patel highlighted Gujarat’s evolving semiconductor ecosystem, citing Dholera SIR and Sanand as emerging hubs for chip manufacturing and related industries. He emphasized the government’s support for industrial projects through infrastructure and policy initiatives. Industry leaders like Meghav Mehta, Dato’ Seri Lee Hung Loong, Mokoto Terada, Ashok Mehta, Rajeev Gautam, and Radhika Viswanathan met with the Chief Minister, discussing potential investments and operational requirements for setting up facilities in Gujarat.
At the conference, Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology, lauded the inauguration of India’s first semiconductor assembly and testing facility, ‘Micron Pioneer,’ in Sanand as a historic milestone. He highlighted Micron’s focus areas in India, including security, sustainability, local presence, AI adoption, and talent development. Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO of Tata Electronics, noted India’s progress in electronics manufacturing, with a significant expansion seen in mobile phone production valued at 70 billion US dollars last year.
Thakur mentioned Tata Electronics’ approval under the Semiconductor Mission, emphasizing Dholera’s emergence as India’s ‘Semicon City’ with ongoing and future job creation. He highlighted the region’s infrastructure development, including highways, power, and water supply, along with the introduction of advanced technologies like lithography supported by international experts and Taiwanese employees.
