Ahmedabad, Aug 12 (IANS) The accused in the Anandnagar rape case was sent to Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Wednesday after being discharged from Sola Civil Hospital and produced before a court, police said.

Dharamsingh Ramshankarsingh, who was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 23-year-old interior design student at a rented accommodation in Ahmedabad, was discharged from Sola Civil Hospital on Wednesday.

He was subsequently produced before the court at 4 p.m. “The court issued a jail warrant against the accused and ordered that he be sent to Sabarmati Central Jail,” police said.

Dharamsingh had been admitted to Sola Civil Hospital after he was shot in the leg by police during a recovery panchnama in the Hebatpur area on August 9.

According to police, the accused allegedly attempted to escape custody and tried to snatch the service revolver of Police Inspector R. S. Parmar while officers were trying to recover the mobile phone allegedly stolen from the victim.

During the ensuing scuffle, Constable Virendrasinh was also injured. Police said two rounds were fired in self-defence, one of which struck Dharamsingh in the leg.

Both the accused and the injured constable were taken to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment. Dharamsingh remained under medical care until his discharge on Wednesday.

The original case relates to an alleged assault on the night of August 8, when the woman had gone to the terrace of the residential building where she was staying.

Police allege that Dharamsingh, who was working as a security guard at the premises, attacked her and sexually assaulted her before fleeing with her mobile phone.

He was arrested on August 9 following a search involving multiple police teams. The investigation has also led to a separate case against the owner of A-One Security Agency.

Police said Dharamsingh had joined the agency only days before the alleged incident and had allegedly not received formal security training or police verification.

The agency’s licence had also expired on April 5, 2026, according to police. The agency owner was booked under Section 20(1) of the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005.

The investigation into the alleged rape and the related cases is continuing.
