Gujarat’s crime rates in 2024 were notably below the national average in key categories, as per the latest “Crime in India – 2024” report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The state’s overall crime rate of 227.7 was lower than the national average of 252.3, ranking Gujarat 12th among India’s 36 states and union territories.
Authorities in Gujarat highlighted that the state’s crime data includes a significant number of prohibition-related cases under Special and Local Laws. This strict enforcement of liquor prohibition laws contributes to a higher overall crime count in Gujarat.
The analysis revealed that Gujarat stood out for having low crime rates against women. With a crime rate of 22.0 compared to the national average of 64.6, Gujarat ranked 33rd among all states and union territories in this category.
In serious violent offenses, Gujarat reported a rate of 16.5, much lower than the national average of 52.9. This placed the state 31st in the category covering crimes like murder, attempt to murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery, and dacoity.
The state also recorded lower rates in crimes affecting the human body, with a rate of 24.7 compared to the national average of 62.1, ranking 31st among states and union territories. For property-related crimes, Gujarat’s rate was 30.4 against the national average of 57.9, positioning the state 23rd.
