More than 1.03 crore QR code-based ticket transactions were recorded on Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) buses between April 2025 and May 2026, generating revenue exceeding Rs 112.45 crore. This reflects the increasing trend of cashless travel in the state’s public transport network. GSRTC has implemented digital initiatives to enhance passenger convenience, transparency, and operational efficiency.
The corporation has introduced QR code-enabled Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) on its buses, enabling passengers to make digital payments and reducing reliance on cash transactions. QR code payments have shown a significant rise, with monthly transactions escalating from 4.6 lakh in April 2025 to over 17.34 lakh in May 2026. The system currently generates an average monthly revenue of Rs 19.37 crore.
GSRTC Public Relations Officer Shraddha Bhatt mentioned the allocation of 10,500 new e-BTM machines across 125 depots under the corporation’s 16 divisions. Initially introduced in premium bus services, the QR code payment facility has now been extended to all GSRTC services and depots due to positive passenger feedback. This digital payment system aims to alleviate challenges faced by passengers in obtaining change during travels and enhance passenger-oriented services.
The corporation has expanded its online reservation network to include approximately 2,500 local bus trips covering distances exceeding 100 kilometers. This move, previously limited to premium and select long-distance services, is expected to benefit passengers in rural and remote areas by enabling advance ticket reservations without visiting bus stations. The online booking facility has received favorable responses, reducing the need for passengers to queue for tickets.
