Gujarat is set to build a state-of-the-art Spine Institute, Sports Injury Center, and Rehabilitation Center at Ahmedabad Medicity, costing around Rs 295 crore. This initiative aims to enhance specialized treatment, rehabilitation, education, and research in spine care and sports medicine. The project was discussed in a meeting led by State Health Minister Praful Pansheriya in Gandhinagar.
Dr. Piyush Mittal, Director of the Government Spine Institute, along with senior health officials and the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) attended the meeting. Praful Pansheriya emphasized that the institute will cater to the rising cases of spinal disorders in Gujarat and prepare the state for upcoming healthcare needs related to major international sports events. He mentioned the state’s ambition to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and the Olympic Games in 2036.
The envisioned complex will consolidate modern facilities for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating spinal disorders and sports injuries. It will feature amenities for intricate spine surgeries, a specialized sports injury center, and a top-notch rehabilitation center. Praful Pansheriya praised Gujarat’s success in spine care, noting zero infection cases in spine surgeries over the past three years.
The project will not only focus on treatment but also on establishing Gujarat as a global center for sports medicine and spine care. The complex will house colleges with advanced educational infrastructure to train specialized healthcare professionals. It will also promote cutting-edge research in spine care and sports medicine, encouraging experts from India and abroad to contribute their expertise.
Officials highlighted that the integrated facility will serve as a hub for advanced treatment, rehabilitation, training, and research, consolidating specialized healthcare services in Ahmedabad. Praful Pansheriya urged officials to finalize project timelines and ensure swift implementation while upholding quality standards.
