Gujarat plans to establish tourist police stations in three important districts to enhance safety and services for visitors. The decision came after a meeting led by State Police Chief Dr K.L.N. Rao, focusing on improving the tourist experience at major destinations. Initially, tourist-friendly police stations will be launched in Gir Somnath, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Dang under the supervision of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
Authorities aim to upgrade existing police outposts to modern tourist police stations in locations where they are already operational. The initiative also involves enhancing the visibility and accessibility of police services for tourists. Plans include introducing unique uniforms for station personnel and a distinctive logo for police vehicles to aid tourists in identifying and seeking assistance from officers easily.
To provide immediate support and information to visitors, container-based help desks and kiosks will be installed at major tourist sites. Additionally, a central interactive tourist police application is being developed by all Superintendents of Police to offer essential information and security services to tourists on a unified platform. The meeting emphasized the importance of sufficient manpower, procurement of new vehicles, and infrastructure development to support the operations of each tourist police station.
Dr Rao emphasized that the initiative aims not only to uphold law and order but also to create a safe and welcoming environment for tourists visiting Gujarat from various parts of India and abroad. The police department highlighted that the program will be fast-tracked to elevate safety standards in the state’s tourism sector. The meeting was attended by the IGP (Administration) and Superintendents of Police from Gir Somnath, Dwarka, and Dang districts.
