Gujarat’s major reservoirs are currently at 59.75% capacity, showing a significant rise from last year. This increase follows an above-average monsoon season, with the state experiencing over 128% of the normal rainfall. The improved water levels are benefiting both drinking water supply and irrigation needs across different regions.
Official data reveals that Gujarat’s key reservoirs currently hold 5.32 lakh million cubic feet (MCFT) of water. Compared to the previous year, there has been a notable 9.04% rise in water availability statewide. Specifically, the Sardar Sarovar reservoir has seen a 12.18% increase in stored water compared to last year, currently holding 72.33% of its capacity.
In terms of regional distribution, Central Gujarat leads with 59.52% storage, followed by South Gujarat at 54.13% and North Gujarat at 49.11%. However, Saurashtra and Kutch regions have lower levels at 43.45% and 37.12%, respectively. The state’s water resources department credits this positive trend to effective water conservation management efforts.
As of the latest update, the total reservoir storage in Gujarat stands at 59.75%, a significant improvement from the previous year’s 50.71%. This upward trend in water storage levels across all regions signifies the impact of increased rainfall and sustained water conservation initiatives in the state.
