Gujarat’s flagship school enrolment campaigns, Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani Rath Yatra, have marked 23 years. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized their evolution into a social movement reshaping education access in the state. Launched in 2003 under Narendra Modi’s leadership, these initiatives aimed to address educational challenges, especially high dropout rates and barriers faced by girls.
Patel highlighted the campaigns’ shift towards collective societal responsibility for education, involving various officials who actively promoted school participation. Over the years, these efforts have not only boosted enrolment but also significantly impacted lives, with many students excelling in diverse professions. The focus on girls’ education through ‘Kanya Kelavani Rath Yatra’ has led to a positive change in societal attitudes towards educating girls.
The state government’s recent schemes, like Namo Lakshmi Yojana and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana, provide financial aid to students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder education. Initiatives such as ‘Gunotsav’ and ‘Vidya Samiksha Kendra’ underscore Gujarat’s commitment to enhancing educational quality and monitoring progress using innovative approaches. Community participation and scholarships further support students, reflecting a holistic approach to education development.
