Gulf Giants, a team in the ILT20 league, has appointed former Australian cricketer Michael Klinger as their batting coach. This move follows the recent appointment of Simon Helmot as the team’s head coach, taking over from Jonathan Trott. Trott, the ex-Afghanistan head coach, left the franchise after just one season, with Helmot stepping in last month.
Klinger, who also serves as the head coach of the Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), expressed his excitement about this new opportunity. He mentioned being familiar with Adani Sportsline’s approach from his time with the Gujarat Giants and looks forward to contributing to the Gulf Giants. Additionally, Kadeer Ali has been brought in as the fielding coach, having previously worked as the assistant head coach at Worcestershire, while Gary Brent will handle the strength and conditioning department.
The Gulf Giants have finalized their support staff for the upcoming season with the addition of Klinger, Ali, and Brent. This trio joins the existing coaching team comprising Shane Bond as the bowling coach, James Pipe as the physiotherapist, and Saurabh Walkar as the performance analyst. The team, which emerged as champions in the inaugural ILT20 season in 2023, aims to bounce back after recent seasons of underperformance.
Former New Zealand cricketer Shane Bond, who serves as the bowling coach, expressed optimism about the upcoming season. He highlighted the quality within the squad and emphasized the potential for growth with the new coaching additions. With Simon Helmot taking the helm as Head Coach and Michael Klinger joining as Batting Coach, the Gulf Giants are focused on enhancing their performance and achieving higher standards in the upcoming season.
