Filmmaker Gurinder Chadha drew inspiration from Frank Capra’s classic “It’s A Wonderful Life” for her festive film “Christmas Karma.” Chadha, aged 65, aimed to recreate the heartwarming experience of Capra’s 1946 movie in her own holiday production. She expressed her love for Capra’s work and the desire to evoke similar emotions every Christmas through her film.
Chadha shared that the idea for “Christmas Karma” struck her while visiting Charles Dickens’ house in Clerkenwell, drawing parallels between her creative process and Capra’s inspiration from Dickens. The director quickly developed the script, completed it in two weeks, and meticulously aligned the music to narrate the film’s story.
Looking forward to a traditional Christmas celebration with her family, Chadha highlighted the cherished customs like attending church on Christmas Eve, exchanging presents, and enjoying a festive meal. Recalling her childhood in London, she reminisced about the joy of Christmas traditions, emphasizing the universal message of kindness, empathy, and compassion that the holiday season represents.
