Hamas announced the dissolution of the Government Emergency Committee in Gaza, transferring control to the National Committee. Mohammed al-Farra, the Head of the Emergency Committee, has resigned, as confirmed by Ismail Thawabta, Director General of the Hamas media office in Gaza. To prevent a vacuum, only technical and professional staff will remain in their positions.
This move aims to address the citizens’ suffering due to the ongoing war, reconstruction delays, siege continuation, crossing closures, and Israeli army presence. The National Committee for Gaza’s Administration is urged to quickly assume its duties in the strip. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem stated that this action is to prevent Israeli interference and shows Hamas’ commitment to transferring governance in Gaza.
In response to a roadmap for the Gaza ceasefire agreement’s second phase, Palestinian factions met in Cairo in mid-June. The roadmap, proposed by the US-led “Board of Peace,” includes plans for Gaza’s future like reconstruction, disarmament, Israeli withdrawal, and international peacekeeping force deployment. The “Board of Peace,” initiated by US President Donald Trump, announced a significant USD 10 billion US contribution for postwar stabilization and relief efforts in Gaza.
