Mumbai Indians’ skipper, Hardik Pandya, has been fined 10% of his match fee and received a Demerit Point for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. The breach involved Pandya knocking the bails of the wicket with force during the game.
The incident took place in the 10th over of the second innings when Pandya, while returning to his run-up, made the violation. He acknowledged the offense and accepted the penalty imposed by Match Referee Rajiv Seth. Mumbai Indians, already out of the playoffs race, suffered a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders.
KKR’s bowlers, Cameron Green and Saurabh Dubey, claimed two wickets each in the powerplay, while their spinners further restricted Mumbai Indians to 147/8. Despite a challenging target of 148, KKR successfully chased it down with an essential partnership between Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell.
“IPL is becoming quite batting-dominated. Bowlers are feeling helpless. I think this game kind of gave bowlers something as well from the wicket, which kind of makes them come and bowl some good balls, make batsmen play some good cricket and score runs. So, I kind of enjoyed it,” said Hardik Pandya post-match. Kolkata Knight Riders’ victory has elevated them to the sixth position on the points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
