Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Member of Parliament, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, has called on the National Commission for Women to address what she termed as “misogynistic and derogatory” comments made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Badal highlighted instances where Mann made inappropriate remarks about women during a speech at Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. She expressed concern that such comments trivialize women’s dignity and promote disrespectful behavior.

Badal criticized the Chief Minister for recounting anecdotes that she believes glorify disrespectful behavior towards women. She emphasized that such remarks are unbecoming of a constitutional figure and set a negative example, especially when made in front of college students. Badal urged for legal action against Mann under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of 2023 for his alleged acts of sexual harassment and disrespect towards women.

Badal stressed the importance of upholding the dignity and respect of women in public discourse, especially when coming from leaders in positions of authority. She called on the National Commission for Women to take the matter seriously and address it in accordance with the law to ensure accountability for such behavior.
