Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein has alleged that he was violently assaulted while serving his prison sentence. The 73-year-old former movie producer, convicted of rape and sexual assault in cases from New York and Los Angeles, recounted being punched hard in the face and left bleeding on the floor while incarcerated. Weinstein, currently held at Rikers Island awaiting a retrial for alleged rape, described his daily life in custody as isolating and dangerous.
He mentioned spending most of his time confined to his cell with minimal interaction, citing an incident where he was attacked after asking someone if they were done using the phone. Despite being asked to identify his attacker by prison officers, Weinstein refused, stating, “You can’t be a rat. That’s the law of the jungle.” Describing the prison conditions as hostile and unsafe, he expressed fear of mixing with other inmates, feeling under siege whenever he is outside his cell.
Weinstein also expressed concerns about his safety in prison, reflecting on his past life contributions and the lack of leniency shown towards him. He mentioned the fear of dying in custody, emphasizing that despite his wrongdoings, he did not deserve harsh treatment like the death penalty. Additionally, Weinstein revealed losing contact with his family, particularly noting unsuccessful attempts to reach out to his daughters.
