Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein is currently in the hospital due to developing breathing issues. Reports indicate that he is resting and recovering at the hospital and is expected to remain there for several weeks. Weinstein’s health worsened while he was at Rikers Island prison, and he is now receiving treatment at Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan.
TMZ was the first to report on Weinstein’s health condition, describing it as “heart failure due to pneumonia.” Despite facing multiple health scares in recent years, New York prosecutors have decided not to pursue a rape charge against the 74-year-old producer for the fourth time. The case had already undergone three trials, with one resulting in an overturned conviction and two ending in hung juries.
Weinstein, known for multiple allegations of sexual misconduct since 2017, has faced accusations of sexual harassment, assault, and rape by numerous women. Although he denied engaging in non-consensual sexual activities and refuted many allegations, he was convicted in New York in 2020 for a criminal sexual act and third-degree rape, receiving a 23-year prison sentence. This conviction was later overturned in 2024 by the New York Court of Appeals, leading to a retrial due to trial errors.
In a separate case in 2022, Weinstein was convicted in California of rape, forcible oral copulation, and sexual penetration involving one woman, resulting in a 16-year prison sentence. These legal battles have been significant within the context of the broader Me Too movement.
