Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed admiration for the determination of athletes at the Special Olympics, highlighting their ability to overcome obstacles and achieve remarkable success with the right support. He made these remarks at the inauguration of the Special Olympics Bharat Athletics National Championship at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, where over 500 athletes from 26 states are participating. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of providing proper training and confidence to individuals, stating that everyone can excel given the opportunity.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Accessible India” initiative, the Chief Minister announced plans to build a dedicated stadium in Haryana for athletes with disabilities, complete with residential facilities. Additionally, he pledged a grant of Rs 31 lakh to Special Olympics Bharat, while Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam offered an additional grant of Rs 21 lakh. Chief Minister Saini also laid the foundation stone for a Girls’ Sports Hostel at the Abhilasha Girls’ Hostel complex of MDU, which will accommodate 150 girl students and cost an estimated Rs 5 crore to construct.
CM Saini underscored the significance of the Special Olympics as more than just a medal competition, emphasizing its role in showcasing the strength and potential of the human spirit. He highlighted the importance of mental empowerment and leadership development through initiatives like health camps, youth activation programs, and athlete leadership training. Saini praised Haryana’s rich sporting legacy, mentioning Special Olympics athlete Keshav Malik from the state and commending his accomplishments.
