Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced a new initiative aimed at enhancing sports development in the state. He highlighted that Haryana has already established itself as a sports powerhouse and emphasized the identification and training of sports-interested children at the village level. Collaboration between panchayats, schools, and the Sports Department will be crucial for this initiative.
During a review of the Sports Department’s five-year roadmap under Haryana Vision — 2047, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of inspecting sports equipment in state complexes to prevent accidents. He also advocated for the construction of stadiums in villages to nurture grassroots sports talent. Furthermore, he proposed utilizing government school premises in rural areas for sports activities and registration of interested children.
To transform Haryana’s sports landscape, the Chief Minister emphasized providing children with the necessary environment and equipment for their chosen sports. He also highlighted the importance of engaging school dropouts in sports to steer them away from negative influences. Planning for the 2036 Olympics was also discussed, with an emphasis on identifying young talents aged 10-12, refining their interests, and establishing specialized training centers.
In preparation for the Olympics, the Chief Minister called for the creation of a district-wise and sport-wise database to identify and excel in various sports disciplines. He recommended developing a portal within the Sports Department to maintain records of children participating in sports at the block level, including winners and active participants.
