Healthcare services in Odisha have been severely disrupted due to a strike by doctors over a 10-point charter of demands. The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) criticized the state government for the collapse of healthcare services, affecting various medical procedures and patient care. The BJD highlighted the government’s failure to address the demands of doctors, leading to the ongoing strike.
The BJD’s Senior Vice-President, Debi Prasad Mishra, expressed disappointment over the government’s inaction regarding the doctors’ demands. Mishra mentioned that despite discussions held in January 2026, no concrete solutions were provided, resulting in the strike. The absence of a promised committee to address the demands further fueled the discontent among doctors.
Mishra emphasized the urgent need for the state government to intervene and restore normal healthcare services to prevent any adverse impact on patient treatment. The Health and Family Welfare Department extended an invitation to the Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) for discussions with Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling to address the ongoing crisis.
