A heated argument erupted in Siliguri, North Bengal, between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members on Monday night. The dispute, involving party flags and event preparations, escalated into a political confrontation over electoral roll revisions and local development initiatives. Police intervened to control the situation, with central forces conducting a route march due to tensions in the area.
The BJP’s Parivartan Yatra is set to commence in Siliguri, with key party members scheduled to participate. The yatra will pass through Naxalbari following the Siliguri-Matigara route. An incident arose when BJP workers were setting up party flags in the area, coinciding with a Trinamool Congress meeting planned for the same location in the coming days.
Accusations were exchanged between BJP MLA Anandamay Barman and TMC leader Arun Ghosh regarding alleged interference with each other’s party flags. Barman criticized the TMC for lack of development, while Ghosh defended their actions and accused the BJP of voter list manipulations. Both parties denied tampering with flags and emphasized their upcoming meetings in the area.
