Heavy rainfall is expected to worsen in various districts of Maharashtra, with officials urging citizens to heed official advisories. The State Emergency Operations Centre has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams strategically across the state as a precautionary measure.
For the monsoon season, Maharashtra has stationed 17 pre-positioned NDRF teams, with multiple teams in key locations like Palghar, Nagpur, Pune, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and others. Additionally, six SDRF teams are on standby for deployment in Dhule, Nagpur, Nanded, and Gadchiroli.
Notable rainfall figures include 151.2 mm at Santacruz and 128 mm at Colaba in Mumbai, with significantly higher amounts in areas like Lonavala, Ambona, and Tamhini. Due to heavy rainfall, areas like Matheran, Lonavala, Khopoli, and Lohagad face an increased risk of landslides, prompting a Red Alert.
Rescue operations are ongoing in coordination with district administrations and the NDRF, with the use of GEO-DSS for risk assessments and alerts. Landslides have disrupted traffic on the Mumbai–Goa National Highway and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, leading to closures and suspension of railway services between Monkey Hill and Thakurwadi.
In Maval Taluka, a bus with passengers stranded in floodwaters was rescued, while a house buried under a landslide in Patan has prompted fears of trapped individuals. Tragically, a building collapse in Mankhurd resulted in six deaths and one injury, with ongoing rescue efforts.
