Veteran Bollywood star Hema Malini recently reminisced about the physically demanding experience of filming the famous dance sequence from the classic movie “Sholay.” During a conversation marking 50 years of the film, she shared how her mother was concerned about her dancing barefoot on scorching rocks in extreme heat. Despite the harsh conditions, Hema Malini completed the shoot, enduring the pain by soaking her feet in cold water afterward.
The actress described the challenging shooting environment, highlighting the unbearable heat from the sand, mud, and rocks. She recalled her mother’s suggestion to wear a thin sole to protect her feet, which was quickly dismissed by the director, Ramesh Sippy. Hema Malini also tried to convince Sippy to film the sequence in cooler months, but he insisted on capturing it in May as planned.
Ramesh Sippy praised Hema Malini’s determination, emphasizing her bravery in completing the demanding shoot. The iconic dance sequence from “Sholay” has remained etched in the memories of audiences since the film’s release in 1975. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the movie featured an ensemble cast including Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, and Jaya Bachchan, among others.
