Veteran actress and politician Hema Malini shared on the ‘Kapil Sharma Show’ how she was named ‘Dream Girl’ even before her movie with the same title was released. The producer of her debut Hindi film, “Sapno Ka Saudagar” (1968), B. Ananthaswami, came up with the idea of introducing her as ‘Dream Girl coming to town’.
During her conversation with Kapil Sharma, Hema Malini recalled her initial confusion about the title as her name was missing from the movie’s promotions. However, Ananthaswami insisted that she would be known as ‘Dream Girl’, a decision that eventually gained immense popularity.
The film “Sapno Ka Saudagar,” directed by Mahesh Kaul and produced by B. Ananthaswami, featured a cast including Raj Kapoor, Hema Malini, Tanuja, and Nadira. Hema Malini later starred in the 1977 movie “Dream Girl,” where she portrayed a character who assumes multiple identities to support an orphanage.
The movie “Dream Girl,” directed by Pramod Chakravorty and featuring Hema Malini, Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, and Prem Chopra, showcased the lead character’s various personas. The film’s music, composed by Laxmikant–Pyarelal, particularly the song “Dream Girl” sung by Kishore Kumar, became a timeless favorite.
