A significant voter turnout of 60.43% was reported by 1 p.m. during the peaceful repolling in Falta Assembly Constituency, West Bengal. Despite the intense summer heat, voters showed enthusiasm, forming long queues at the 285 polling booths. Security was tight, but the atmosphere remained calm throughout the voting process.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office insider noted a consistently high voting trend during the repolling, similar to the previous two-phased Assembly polls in April. The current polling percentage of 60.43% by 1 p.m. is expected to surpass the 90% mark seen in the earlier phases. The final polling percentage is anticipated to be high as well.
While the ruling party, Trinamool Congress, and its candidate Jahangir Khan were absent from the polling scene, representatives from major political parties like BJP, CPI(M), and Congress were present at all polling stations. The repolling, under heavy security with 35 CAPF companies, is a rare occurrence for a single Assembly constituency. The initial polling on April 29 faced allegations of malpractices, leading to the ECI’s decision for a complete repoll.
