Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Sukhu, initiated the Chinar plantation drive’s first phase from his official residence, Oak Over, in Shimla on World Environment Day. The drive aims to increase green cover and raise awareness about environmental conservation. The Chinar tree, known for its majestic appearance and ecological importance, thrives in Shimla’s climate.
On World Environment Day, the Chief Minister unveiled four publications related to forestry, environmental management, and eco-tourism. These include Van Bodh, a handbook for forest personnel, Environmental Management and Regulations by Dr. Sanjay Sood, and a Coffee Table Book on 75 Ecotourism Sites of Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the value of these publications for forest officials, researchers, and policymakers in advancing environmental conservation knowledge.
During the event, Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted the crucial role of the younger generation in environmental preservation. He urged the youth to lead in safeguarding the environment and building a sustainable future. Additionally, he distributed saplings to students and ‘Children of the State’ as part of the World Environment Day festivities.
MLAs Vinod Sultanpuri, Sudarshan Babloo, and Hardeep Bawa, along with other dignitaries, were present at the event to support the Chief Minister’s environmental initiatives.
