Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu revealed that his government has initiated measures to reduce official spending. This includes downsizing convoys and promoting the use of electric vehicles. Sukhu mentioned that he has already reduced the size of his convoy and emphasized the use of small electric cars. Additionally, salaries of Ministers and MLAs have been slashed by 30% and 20% respectively.
Welcoming the Governor’s decision to reduce his convoy, CM Sukhu highlighted that the state government is aligned with this approach. He emphasized that cuts have not only affected salaries but also various perks and facilities. Criticizing the BJP for alleged extravagant spending, Sukhu pointed out the construction of costly buildings that are now underutilized.
Taking a dig at the BJP, CM Sukhu accused the party of seeking power without adequately serving the people of Himachal Pradesh. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of Rs 1,500 crore for the state, questioning the BJP’s accountability regarding the funds. Sukhu affirmed his commitment to progress with a focus on self-reliance, contrasting it with the BJP’s approach.
In response to PM Modi’s directive to reduce convoy vehicles by 50% to curb fuel consumption, the SPG has been tasked with incorporating more electric vehicles without additional purchases. This move aligns with efforts to reduce fuel usage amid global concerns. The emphasis on electric vehicles reflects a broader push towards sustainability and efficiency in official transportation.
