Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu inaugurated the Multipurpose Sports Stadium in Sanjauli, near Shimla, at a cost of Rs 3.18 crore. Additionally, he launched Himachal Pradesh’s first Chitta Awareness Volleyball Tournament in Sanjauli, held as part of the International Summer Festival Shimla. The winning team of the tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The Chief Minister oversaw a march past by 13 teams from across the state and administered an oath against drug abuse to all participants. He announced Rs 1 crore for the improvement of the Sanjauli Ground, the establishment of a Primary Health Centre (PHC), and the elevation of the Sanjauli Holi Fair to district-level status. CM Sukhu expressed the government’s commitment to hosting ‘Khelo India’ competitions in Himachal Pradesh, with directions already issued to the concerned department.
Sukhu disclosed plans for another stadium in Ghatasani, near Shimla, costing Rs 10 crore. He emphasized his personal connection to sports from his school days, highlighting increased diet allowances for athletes. The daily diet allowance for athletes within the state is Rs 400, rising to Rs 500 for those competing outside the state. MLA Harish Janartha praised the development of the Sanjauli Ground, fulfilling a longstanding demand, and commended the Chief Minister’s focus on youth engagement in sports and drug prevention initiatives.
