Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta recently toured Lahaul-Spiti and Manali, where he visited the renowned Atal Tunnel. Impressed by its technical excellence and strategic significance, he highlighted the tunnel’s role in regional progress. Built by the Border Roads Organisation, the Atal Tunnel showcases modern engineering and technology, creating new avenues for development and connectivity in the Himalayan region.
Governor Gupta, while traveling from the South Portal to the North Portal of the tunnel, received detailed insights from Border Roads Organisation officials regarding its construction, safety features, and functioning. He acknowledged the tunnel as a testament to the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, emphasizing its broader significance beyond being a mere engineering marvel. The project’s completion has facilitated year-round connectivity between Lahaul-Spiti and the rest of Himachal Pradesh, significantly enhancing transportation, healthcare, education, and essential services for residents.
The Governor noted the substantial boost in tourism following the tunnel’s inauguration, leading to increased employment opportunities and economic growth in the region. During his visit, Governor Gupta also explored Sissu Lake and Sissu Waterfall, appreciating the natural beauty of Lahaul Valley. He recognized Sissu as a key tourist destination in the state, attributing its rising popularity to the enhanced accessibility brought about by the Atal Tunnel. Additionally, he visited the Raja Ghepan Temple, a revered site in Lahaul, where he prayed for the well-being and prosperity of the local community.
