At least nine people lost their lives, and 14 others sustained injuries when a residential house collapsed in Pakistan’s Kohat district during heavy rain. The incident occurred in the Malgin area of the Lachi region, trapping 23 individuals under the debris. Rescue teams swiftly responded, extracting all victims and transferring them to a nearby hospital.
Among the deceased were six women and three children, with concerns raised about a potential rise in the death toll as some of the injured are in critical condition. The house collapse took place amidst ongoing monsoon rains in various parts of Pakistan, leading to flash floods, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to daily life. Additionally, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of the province issued a warning about possible increased water release from dams in the coming days due to rising inflows.
In a separate incident on July 2, tragedy struck in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area when part of a private school building collapsed, resulting in the death of one child and injuries to five others. The collapse, involving an under-construction wall and roof section, led to the child’s immediate demise at the scene. Emergency response teams initiated a search operation to ensure no further individuals were trapped under the rubble, with the injured promptly receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital. Authorities are actively investigating the causes behind this structural failure.
