New Delhi, Aug 11 (IANS) Aazad Samaj Party-Kanshi Ram President Chandrashekhar Azad on Tuesday said that Parliament does not belong only to the BJP and the Congress, asserting that several other parties also have important issues that deserve discussion in the House.

Talking to IANS, Azad said: “The House does not belong only to the BJP and Congress; there are many other parties here, and they also have several issues. At Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) in Lucknow, students had tried to organise a procession to celebrate Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. The government has filed cases against them and imposed fines.”

Questioning the action taken against the students, he said: “How can action be taken without giving them a hearing? I have seen videos in which students were saying that they were not getting proper food in their hostel mess. We want the House to function so that issues like these can also be discussed. There should be discussions on all issues.”

Azad also reacted to the ongoing student protests in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

Expressing support for the agitating students, he said, “Once the House concludes, if their demands are not met, I will go there and support them. I assure you of this.”

Meanwhile, the bandh called by the BJP across Jharkhand and the Assembly gherao programme organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Ranchi on Tuesday, in protest against the police lathicharge on students agitating over alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations, witnessed a mixed response.

While BJP workers staged demonstrations and blocked roads at several locations in the state capital, ABVP activists attempting to march towards the Jharkhand Assembly were stopped and detained by the police.

Despite sporadic disruptions, normal life remained largely unaffected in many parts of Ranchi during the morning hours. Most commercial establishments stayed open and vehicular movement was largely smooth across the city.
