A large crowd assembled in Nepal’s Janakpur City to listen to Balen Shah, the former Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, who has been nominated as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for the upcoming parliamentary elections on March 5. Shah, of Madhesi origin, addressed the gathering in Maithili, the local language, emphasizing the need for capable leadership in the country.
Shah, a senior leader of the RSP, urged voters to support his party not just because a Madhesi could potentially become Prime Minister, but to ensure competent governance. Highlighting the tourism potential of Janakpur, known for its religious significance, Shah envisioned the city as a prominent wedding destination, tapping into the trend of Nepalis choosing to marry abroad.
RSP President Rabi Lamichhane praised Shah’s leadership qualities, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the nation. Shah, who recently merged his team with the RSP, is poised to lead the party’s parliamentary wing and become the prime ministerial candidate after the upcoming elections. Known for his infrastructure initiatives and criticism of established political parties, Shah’s popularity among the youth has been on the rise.
