The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has raised alarm over the worsening security situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Residents in these regions are facing enforced disappearances, targeted killings, and militant attacks, leading to a precarious environment. The recent alleged abduction of university officials in Mastung has highlighted the challenges in securing major highways and safeguarding civilians.
The HRCP emphasized the need for immediate action to address the security crisis in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The organization expressed deep concern over the killing of Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat in Noshki, emphasizing the broader implications of such attacks on educators and academics. The deadly incidents in Bannu, Bajaur, and Lakki Marwat underscore a disturbing trend of militant violence claiming lives indiscriminately.
In response to the escalating violence, the HRCP called on the authorities to prioritize the protection of human life and public spaces. The recovery of missing university officials, thorough investigations into attacks, and holding perpetrators accountable were highlighted as crucial steps. The Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department also condemned the targeted killing of Ghamkhwar Hayat, labeling it as part of the ongoing Baloch genocide and collective punishment against the Baloch people.
