A human rights organization strongly criticized the enforced disappearance of a student in Balochistan by Pakistani forces. The student, Mumtaz Baloch, studying Balochi Literature and Language at the University of Balochistan, was taken from Turbat by Pakistan’s Frontier Corps without due process. His disappearance adds to the concerning trend of arbitrary detentions in Balochistan.
The Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department highlighted Mumtaz’s commitment to Balochi language and literature. The organization expressed worry over the rising targeting of students and intellectuals in Balochistan, emphasizing that such actions violate human rights and stifle intellectual freedom. The group urged Pakistani authorities to reveal Mumtaz’s whereabouts, ensure his safety, and end enforced disappearances in the region.
Calling for international attention, the rights body asked organizations like the United Nations to intervene and pressure Pakistan to uphold human rights standards. It emphasized the importance of addressing human rights violations to prevent further crises in Balochistan.
