A human rights organization has expressed deep concern over the increasing mistreatment of Baloch civilians by Pakistani forces in Balochistan from January to April this year. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee’s report, titled ‘Kill and Dump Policy in Balochistan,’ highlighted 43 documented cases of “kill and dump” victims and 21 instances of targeted killings.
The report emphasized that the documented cases did not include individuals who remained unidentified, were buried secretly, or had their bodies handed over to families discreetly. It also pointed out that the figures did not encompass fake encounters, unidentified dumped bodies, or victims killed through other means.
The situation in Balochistan was described as a persistent and alarming aspect of the ongoing scenario in the region. The report noted a significant escalation in the scale and intensity of such incidents in early 2026 compared to the past two decades. The patterns of killings observed across various districts in Balochistan, including Awaran, Gwadar, Kech, Kharan, Panjgur, and Quetta, raised serious concerns about the systematic nature of these actions.
Highlighting the lack of judicial action against arbitrary detention and the kill and dump policy, the report underlined that judges and state officials who spoke out against these human rights violations faced retaliation from Pakistani authorities. It also criticized Pakistan’s judiciary for allegedly exhausting the people of Balochistan through biased and influenced rulings, compromising the principles of independence and checks and balances.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee stressed the importance of strengthening the legal framework to criminalize enforced disappearances and ensuring judicial oversight of security and intelligence agencies as crucial steps towards accountability. It called for the establishment of independent investigative bodies involving international experts or special rapporteurs from the United Nations to address cases transparently, free from political and military influence.
The human rights group urged the United Nations Human Rights Council, special rapporteurs, working groups, and other international organizations to pressurize Pakistani authorities to adopt a more compassionate approach towards the people of Balochistan in light of the escalating abuses.
