Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) has called on authorities to protect Sarwar Masih and his family, who are under threat of blasphemy accusations in Gujranwala city, Pakistan. The family’s property was allegedly seized by a neighbor using blasphemy allegations to justify the illegal occupation. HRFP demands a fair investigation and justice for those responsible for the threats.
The perpetrators reportedly used blasphemy laws to aid in the unlawful land grabbing, displaying religious symbols at the occupied property to escalate the situation. Sarwar Masih and his family fear false blasphemy charges if they try to reclaim their land. The situation has raised concerns not only for their safety but also for the wider Christian community in the area.
Masih’s family, who have lived on the property for over seven decades without prior disputes, faces a significant barrier in seeking justice due to the threat of blasphemy accusations. HRFP President Naveed Walter highlighted the pattern of using blasphemy threats to intimidate Christian families, leading to attacks and forced relocations. The police’s inaction during the property occupation further underscores the challenges faced by victims in such cases.
