A human rights organization in Balochistan has refuted the provincial government’s assertion that the matter of missing persons has been permanently resolved, calling it misleading. The Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) dismissed the official statement as false, emphasizing that families are still searching for their disappeared relatives. The HRCB’s 2025 report documented 1,455 cases of enforced disappearances, with 1,052 individuals still missing, 317 released, and others facing grim fates.

The HRCB highlighted the alarming number of illegal detentions, emphasizing that the situation contradicts the government’s claim of resolution. It pointed out that many families in Balochistan are grappling with the anguish of not knowing the whereabouts of their loved ones, despite seeking help from various authorities and organizations. The rights body condemned the unlawful abductions, stressing that the victims were denied legal rights and due process, a violation of both national and international laws.

Enforced disappearances are considered a grave violation of human rights under international law, the HRCB reiterated, expressing dismay over the issue being downplayed as mere propaganda. The organization emphasized that the crisis of enforced disappearances in Balochistan persists, labeling any contrary assertions as misleading. It demanded the immediate production of missing persons before courts and urged accountability for those responsible for these unlawful acts.

The Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department strongly criticized the Balochistan cabinet’s approval of the Balochistan Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism Rules 2025, denouncing it as an attempt to legitimize enforced disappearances under a different guise. The organization warned against establishing detention centers without proper judicial oversight, cautioning that such actions could normalize arbitrary arrests and abuse. It stressed the importance of due process, court proceedings, and holding perpetrators of disappearances accountable.
