A human rights organization in Bangladesh, Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), has highlighted various rights violations in the country, such as mob violence, extrajudicial killings, deaths in custody, minority persecution, political violence, and press freedom suppression. The organization’s recent report revealed a significant increase in “mob terrorism” in 2025, with 197 lives lost due to mob violence from January to December, compared to 128 deaths the previous year.

The report noted that since the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took office in 2024, at least 293 individuals have been killed in mob violence. The ASK report cited instances where people were attacked and killed without due process, based on suspicion and rumors. It mentioned the formation of illegal mobs under the name of Tawheed Janata, targeting various communities and engaging in destructive activities.

According to the report, law enforcement agencies often failed to intervene in these incidents, leading to a lack of justice for the victims. The ASK report also highlighted that 107 individuals, including inmates and prisoners, died in different prisons across Bangladesh in 2025, with Dhaka Central Jail recording the highest number of deaths.

Moreover, the report documented 38 cases of extrajudicial killings in 2025, occurring in the custody of law enforcement agencies. It emphasized the ongoing human rights crisis in the country, with incidents of torture and deaths under the pretext of ‘shootouts’ or ‘gunfights’. The report further revealed that Bangladesh witnessed 401 cases of political violence in the same year, resulting in 102 fatalities and 4,744 injuries.
