Humayun Kabir, the suspended Trinamool Congress legislator from Bharatpur Assembly constituency in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, has altered the name of his newly formed political party. Initially named ‘Janata Unnayan Party (JUP),’ the Election Commission of India (ECI) disapproved the name. Consequently, Kabir rebranded his party as the ‘Amm Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP).’

Explaining the ECI’s rejection of the original name, Kabir disclosed that the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal forwarded the proposal for ‘JUP’ registration to the ECI. However, the ECI informed him of an existing party with the same name. Subsequently, Kabir and his representatives visited Delhi to propose the new name ‘AJUP’ to the Commission.

Expressing confidence in registering his party with the Commission, Kabir emphasized the party’s readiness to contest the upcoming Assembly elections independently. He called upon anti-Trinamool Congress and anti-BJP factions to unite against the ruling party in West Bengal. Kabir asserted his determination to succeed in removing the current government from power.
