Humayun Kabir, a suspended Trinamool Congress legislator who recently launched his own political party, will run for office in two Assembly constituencies in Murshidabad district during the upcoming two-phase Assembly polls in West Bengal. Kabir, who previously represented the Bharatpur constituency, will now contest from Rejinagar and Naoda constituencies as a candidate of the Aam Aadmi Unnayan Party (AAUP). Despite initial expectations of his candidacy in Beldanga, Kabir has opted for Rejinagar and Naoda.

Expressing his intentions to challenge the Trinamool Congress, Kabir stated, “I have decided to contest from Rejinagar and Naoda to give the Trinamool Congress a lesson,” during the announcement of AAUP candidates. The AAUP has nominated Syed Ahmed Kabir to contest from Beldanga constituency. Notably, several Trinamool Congress legislators who were denied re-nomination have shown interest in joining AAUP in the Murshidabad and Malda districts.

Kabir’s primary focus is on confronting the Trinamool Congress, following his suspension from the party due to his proposal to build a replica of the Babri Mosque in Beldanga. Subsequently, he established his own political party and sought alliances with groups opposing both the BJP and Trinamool Congress. While initial talks with AIMIM took place, broader political alliances have yet to materialize for Kabir.
